Lieber Herr Erkens,

YouTube has some quite restrictive size and length limits, so at Virtuelle Akademie (http://www.virtuelle-akademie.de/) we worked with Google Video as an alternative way to present video material on our website: At the moment we feature speeches from various occasions including the Karlsruher Verfassungsdialog. Unfortunately all the material is in German language only:

jyoti, thaks for your comment. don't be so modest. all staff members are invited to write about their experiences with the usage of digital media. this site is far from where it could and should be, but then everybody (me included) seems to be busy with other things. thanks for dropping in and ... coming back.

dear Dr. M
yes it is good to see some of these interesting things in English...as my German is far far from fluent. I was encouraged to contribute too, but the topic is not exactly an area I have much to say...but will keep coming back to learn more from you and your team.
regards,

The Latin American region of FNF will start a new online seminar on "Liberalismo" in Spanish language from mid-August 2007. The seminar which is designed in close co-operation between FNF Regional Office for Latin America in Mexico City, the FNF Sao Paulo office in Brazil and the FNF partner Instuto de Estudos Avancados in Florianópolis, Brazil, is aimed at members of liberal parties and liberal minded NGOs.

The new seminar on liberalism is closely watched by the IAF and the Virtual Academy of FNF in Germany since it is the first such seminar in the FNF world and may provide helful informations for similar seminars elsewhere.

The online seminar "Journey into the world of entrepreneurship" in Portuguese ends in June 2007. The course was developed by the Instute for Advanced Studies in cooperation with the FNF and the Confederation of Young Entreprenuers (CONAJE) in Brazil and aimes at young Brazilians who intend to found their own business.

The four courses offered in 2007 were attended by almost 1000 particpants of which more than 70% ended the course successully - a reason of pride given that usually only about a third of those who start an online course tend to finish it.That the seminar was highly successfully is also reconfirmed by the fact that there is already a waiting list of 750 persons for any potential new course. However, at the moment lack of funds make it impossible to offer new courses.

thanks, dirk, for your comments and the interesting information:

the kas-website is really worth having a closer look at. i hope our colleagues at hq are aware of that site.

as some of you may know, i am a fan of adding audio, and the method chosen by kas is one out of many.

for starters, you may check out www.gcast.com which is a free podcasting tool. gcast allows you to integrate audio-files into your website or blog easily. it also provides for an rss-feed so that your audio may be subscribed to.i encourage you to experiment with this tool (and use it as long as we are not offerend better options by hq).

finally, thanks also for mentioning tv-liberal.de. a free alternative would be www.youtube.com. it is very easy to add video-files to your site using this program.

Thanks, Dirk, for your comments and sorry for the deplayed response. Was travelling and some countries manage well in restricting access to weblogs...

You are absolutely right that we should not only look for the best and most advanced solutions. Malaysia actually wants to be a leading player in cyberspace and even created an investment zone called "Cyberjaya". Therefore the presentation tried to remind the party of factual deficits in their own presentation vis-a-vis existing technologies and ambitious plans of the government.

The link to the KAS website is extremely useful. I will recommend that we do something similar here in this region.

It is indeed very good that FNF finally rediscovers the world of modern teaching.

I can only recommend the seminars developed by The America "National Council on Economic Education" (www.ncee.net). They are targeted at high school kids but after going through some of the material I can also recommend them for adults - and to everybody in FNF.

It is particularly fascinating to read the practical lessons and examples. They demonstrate once again that liberalism is nothing abstract and philosophical but deeply inbedded into human day-to-day life. To check your own knowledge on both macroeconomics and microeconomics online with a test developed with the support of Goldman Sachs on the NCEE website is specially rewarding.

Kind regards from sunny Sao Paulo

Hello to all,
as this very interesting presentation about Political communication in the internet was held in English language and as I understood that we should use this blog in English, I want to answer by that mean.

First of all, thanks to Rainer Heufers and Maximilian Peters for sharing their work and thoughts which is quite helpful. Just some remarks: I must say that I have not done a proper analysis about the different ways of online-communication and as a matter of fact every region and country offers a different status quo to start from when it comes to such a recent technological development. However, I would like to say that in my view it is common in Asia, MSOE or Latin America that internet, and in particular broadband connections is only accessible for a richer elite of people. That should be kept in mind, though in some way that covers the group of intellectuals, politicians and businessmen (plus maybe students of better universities) we are focusing on as they (will) shape their countries politics.
One thing I was missing in the presentation (or it was a bit underrepresented) was "low cost"-multimedia-solutions. I think that with its very limited resources, Naumann-Foundation should maybe go for audio-file content, which can also be combined with pictures, graphics and so on. This is way cheaper in its production and also slimmer, i.e. easier to access with dial-up internet access or in low-standard internet-cafes.
A good example for me is that of KAS.de, they offer on a quite regular basis simulated "interviews" with its heads of offices about latest political developments.
Here we go:
http://www.kas.de/international/audio/3372_webseite.html
But only in German, I must say. Obviously, this is done in a quite professional (and outsourced) way and certainly not low-priced.
Also not to miss is my latest favorite tv-liberal.de.
